Jerusalem

To follow up on the mention of "Jerusalem" in class: here's the poem, and here too is a clip from the Royal Wedding. The music is by Sir Hubert Parry, 1916 (World War I).

The poem refers to a legend that Jesus visited England during his lifetime. It contrasts Christ as the divine made human, and Jerusalem, his "capital," with the "dark Satanic Mills," which are both the factories of the Industrial Revolution and (metaphorically) the grinding wheels of law, religion, ideology, etc.
